First StepsGuidelines for Establishing Your Local Union
|
Gather Grassroots Support
The most important elements of any union are its members. If you have a group interested in making a long-term
difference in your basic working conditions, including wages and benefits, you have come to the right place.
IUPA is your source for organizational, legislative and legal services and support.

|
Organize a Leadership Committee
It is important to make sure that there is a core group of coworkers who desire to be the leadership committee and make things happen before we start discussing the organizing aspect.
This core group must accomplish the tasks diligently and must do so in a timely and coordinated effort.

Contact IUPA
To get started, please make a phone call to our main office and request an organizing package. It is preferable that this packet be sent to your home address. Arden will take your request at 800-247-4872 and forward your name and contact phone numbers to Dave Nulton, Field Services Director, who will then call you, usually within 24 Hours.
|
Each Local will establish a functioning Board, a constitution and bylaws, a treasury, an official name, and operate autonomously within the framework of the International.
Remember, IUPA offers services and resources and has a union perspective, but in the final analysis, the membership and leadership will determine how successful your effort will be.
Once these steps have been taken the next step, affiliation, can begin.
